Hillcrest Event Center is gearing up for another year hosting the Haunted Woods. They have hosted the event for the past 3 years which gives school organizations around the area a chance to do some fundraising while having tons of fun.
The Haunted Woods is an event designed like a huge haunted maze. Participants go through the maze and get spooked by the monsters and goblin lurking deep in the woods. The whole event is run by the Booster Clubs and Band Clubs of local schools. It has been a successful fundraiser in the past for schools like Rock Island High, Davenport High, and Molien High raking in a crowd anywhere from 10 thousand to 20 thousand people. Participating schools earn a portion of proceeds from the tickets they sell and have an option for which weekend they would like to volunteer through to October 25th and 26th. Junior High schools can sell tickets to the Haunted Woods as well to fundraise. Hillcrest Events Center provides the venue as well as refreshments. A review for last year’s Haunted Woods on merchantcircle.com says “The haunted woods was a great time we were filmed for TV , meet the cast of American resort reality TV show and hung out by the campfire”. There are other activities going on a the Haunted Woods to participate in if getting scared isn’t in your interests. For more information you can visit Hillcrest Event Center’s website at hillcresteventcenter.com.
Hillcrest Event Center doesn’t only host the Haunted Woods but is a good venue to host all sorts of fundraisers as well as get engaged in your community with classes and events that are fun as family friendly. If you’re looking for ways to get involved come visit Hillcrest Event Center.

On July 28th, Hillcrest Event Center will be hosting its 3rd annual Illinois BBQ Festival at the Center. Categories that will be judged are beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and chicken.
Check-in for the event competitors will be on Saturday, July 27th so contestants can start preparing their entries. Certain categories can be prepared at a designated time the night before as well.
Not only contestants are invited to this event. All ages from the entire area can come enjoy the cook-off starting at 10am and the entries will be ready by lunchtime! Having job experience is one thing that employers are always going to be looking for before hiring college grads for their vacant positions. Internships are the best way to get that experience to put onto your résumé. Hillcrest Event Center has interns working this summer in public relations, business management, forestry conservation, graphic design, photography and cinematography, food service/restaurant hospitality, music entertainment, human resources, and architecture. While participating in the internships, interns are gaining experience in customer service, hospitality, and every aspect involved in running a business.

Brinton Vincent, one of this summer’s interns from Cambridge, IL, is participating in the Public Relations internship at the event center. “The experience I’ve gained from this internship is already immeasurable. I have written press releases, helped with customers, posted our events to the local online calendars, kept up on our Facebook and Twitter pages, and even struck a deal with Groupon to bring customers some amazing deals on camping, golfing, and swimming! I never realized my potential until I started this internship, and I’m only finishing up my fourth week.” said Vincent.
Hillcrest Event Center is still hiring interns to participate this summer. The internships are unpaid, however there are internship grants of up to $3,000 still available
